Drones — we’re talking super high tech remote-controlled helicopters also known as multi-copters — aren’t just for the military. They’ve even made their way into weddings!
Take for example, this drone helicopter proposal
or even this drone ring bearer that seems to come out of nowhere!
or this one where the drone drops off the rings to the couple at the altar.
Even videographers are experimenting with drones — check out this beach wedding footage from a wedding in South East Asia.
According to The Washington Post you can buy your very own drone for around $ 300, so it’s no surprise that some photographers are experimenting with drones. I spoke to Chris Geiger of Chris Geiger Photography who piloted his multi-copter to help the couple in the proposal video above. Chris is a trained pilot and while he loves that drones have the potential to capture some incredible aerial footage, he warns that piloting a drone is harder than it looks.
“The propellers are dangerous and can cause damage,” cautions Chris. In addition, “A lot of photographers don’t realize that once the camera is in the air they’re no longer covered by liability insurance.” Not to mention that technically commercial use outdoors is currently banned by the FAA (though that’s expected to change by 2015).
While we love the sentiment, looks like this trend is best left to the pros who also happen to hold a pilot’s license.
Still love the idea, we suggest you take another angle an use something a little more innocuous – like this remote control car ring bearer…
